Annual report highlights economic developments, opportunities in Carroll County

Delphi, IN—A strong and diversified economy, a $10-million investment in internet connectivity and several major corporate acquisitions number among the successes featured in the 2019 Close Up Report published by the Carroll County Economic Development Corporation (CCEDC).

“For local residents, this report is an excellent way to catch up on the economic progress that’s taking place in our own backyard,” says Laura Walls, Executive Director of the CCEDC. “Just as importantly, Close Up 2019 serves as a great introduction for outside businesses interested in Carroll County.”

For the fifth year in a row, the CCEDC’s Close Up Report vows to “keep an eye on the economy,” and delivers on the promise by highlighting major happenings around the region, including:
  • The Wabash Heartland Innovation Network’s offer of grants up to $100k and $1m in different categories for projects that can improve the region’s vitality, education and connectivity;
  • Indiana Packers Corporation’s purchase of Specialty Foods Group, the maker and manufacturer of seven retail meat brands, including Kentucky Legend hams, the number one-selling retail brand in the U.S.;
  • Next Day Container’s acquisition by Industrial Container Services, which subsequently merged with three other companies to form the multinational Mauser Packaging Solutions;
  • U.S. Aggregates investment of more than $5 million for its property and lab equipment;
  • A $50k grant for Phase 3 of renovating the Flora Depot and plans to transform the Burlington American Stagecoach Inn into a museum.
Close Up 2019 also showcases available business properties that are move-in or construction ready, such as those found in the Hoosier Heartland Industrial Park (Delphi), Peter’s Industrial Development (Delphi), Delphi Industrial Park, Sycamore Industrial Park (Flora) and Wise Development (Camden).

The CCEDC is an important resource and liaison for businesses looking to relocate, launch or expand within Carroll County. The Close Up 2019 is just one of a number of initiatives to promote a business-friendly climate within the region.

The recipient of a $100,000 regional business attraction grant from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, the CCEDC has also been quite active in attending key industry trade shows across the U.S. as a way to put Carroll County on the radar of industry site-selectors. In 2018, Executive Director Laura Walls promoted Carroll County to site-selectors in Indianapolis, Cleveland, Atlanta and Los Angeles. Throughout 2019, she’s attended or will be attending the World Ag Expo, the AmCon Contract Manufacturers Expo, the ProMat Supply Chain and Manufacturing Trade Show, plus 10 more shows and sales trips.
