New industry, industrial park, job growth headline Carroll County news
‘Close Up’ report tallies investments, expansions, tourism impact

Delphi, Ind. – May 24, 2016 – Industry, agriculture, tourism and redevelopment are each thriving individually in Carroll County, Indiana, reports Carroll County Economic Development in its just-published, “Close Up: Keeping Our Eye on the Economy.”

“Combined, the capital investments and growth signal unparalleled robustness,” said Laura Walls, executive director of the nonprofit organization.

Among the top news is completion of the first building in the 60-acre Hoosier Heartland Industrial Park, a 40,000-square-foot facility on 10 acres that houses Carroll White REMC and the Carroll County Economic Development Corporation. “This has boosted interest in the remaining 50 acres,” Walls said.

The newest industry to choose the county for its operations is Wiechman Pig Co., opening a $1.3 million facility this year. The community also is benefiting from a $40.6 million expansion at pork processor Indiana Packers, which is adding 100 jobs to its current workforce of some 2,100.

“Visitors to the Delphi Opera House, which completed its $4.25 million restoration and is in the midst of its first season, is drawing good crowds,” Walls said. “That is a big plus, along with the Wabash & Erie Canal Park and Interpretive Center, in enhancing our county as a destination for visitors.”

Other Delphi developments include completion of Canal Commons, a 44-unit multifamily project, and renovation of 36 façades in its downtown. In Flora, a solar park and restoration of the Historic Flora Depot are under way.

“This is a county with a can-do spirit, and it’s evident in the way everyone comes together to achieve a healthy economy and quality of life,” Walls said. “This year is also a celebratory year, with Indiana Bicentennial events scheduled throughout Carroll County. We have a history to be proud of, and we’re creating a future that is generating a warm welcome to newcomers.”
